The Bucket List

54 2024 luxury ar A world cruise will take a considerable time and at significant cost. Prices range from around £15k to upwards of £100k per person. All highlighted cruises are for more than 100 days (one even lasts nearly half the year, at a total of 180 days), so they're ideal for long sabbaticals and retirees looking for their next big adventure. If an around-the-world cruise is at the top of your travel list, you'll want to book sooner rather than later as these journeys frequently sell out because many cruise lines only offer a limited number of sailings. Pack wisely for a range of destinations and climates, and get ready for the journey of a lifetime, filled with postcard-perfect destinations and new friends (because you're bound to meet a travel friend or two after 100plus days on a ship). A world cruise will disembark at many different countries, and whilst cruise lines are very good at spelling out which visas you will need, you still have to read the paperwork thoroughly, especially as different countries have different requirements depending on the applicant's nationality. Apply (and make appointments if necessary) well in advance as visas for some countries can take a long time to be processed. Make sure you have several completely empty pages on your passport for visas and stamps. Not every country will stamp you, but many require face-to-face immigration with every single passenger onboard, especially in North and South America. Also, your passport must be valid for at least six months after the final port visit on the cruise. Planning continued on page 57
