Villa Orsula A period boutique hotel with views to kill of Dubrovnik Old Town & Adriatic Sea Iconic City Hotels of the World B uilt in the 1930s as an aristocrat’s private villa, this exclusive, boutique hotel was painstakingly renovated in 2012, but still makes guests feel as if they’re staying in someone’s home. Perched on a steep hillside across the bay from the Old Town of Dubrovnik, it features stone terraces, vine-covered pergolas, and colourful gardens, all of which offer breathtaking views past Lokrum Island to the Adriatic and across to the stone battlements and a sea of terracotta rooftops within the Old Town. All but one of the 11 rooms and 2 suites have sea views. In addition the elegantly proportioned rooms have high ceilings and arched windows lined with white shutters to soften the afternoon sun, while modern bathrooms come stocked with plush bathrobes and decadent Bulgari amenities. When not enjoying their daily delivery of fresh fruit or cookies, guests can head to the bathing platform at the bottom of the stone stairs, the outdoor pool at the neighboring Grand Villa Argentina, or the spa at the Hotel Excelsior, both of which are sister properties. Time passes slowly in this tranquil retreat. While away the hotter hours of the afternoon in cool of the gardens, sitting amoung the wild orange trees and lavender. Borrow a book from the library and settle in for a good read in the bar, set behind three magnificent 1930’s arches, or follow the pretty path to the private beach where a dedicated member of staff will lead you to your sunbed, sunshade and towels. And as the sun sets after a day of exploration in the Old Town, what better than dinner at Victoria Restaurant. Set on a grapevine-draped terrace overlooking the most sublime sea views, Victoria is a destination in itself. Under the talented hand of chef Roberto Chavez, this is the first Peruvian restaurant on the Adriatic. While combining fresh local ingredients with ethnic influences that make Peruvian cuisine so authentic, he prepares meals which reflect harmony and happiness beyond the kitchen.
