Iconic City Hotels of the World
Fairmont Le Château Frontenac The heights of Québec are dominated by one of the most iconic hotels in the world Iconic City Hotels of the World S at high above the St. Lawrence River, the Château Frontenac is a true Canadian icon. In fact, thanks to its dramatic location and fairy tale castle towers and turrets, some have suggested it’s the most photographed hotel in the world. Designated a United Nations World Heritage site, this stately luxury hotel stands above historic Old Québec, probably the most European of North American cities! With its cobbled streets lined with buildings several hundred years old, it is a walker’s paradise filled with old world charm as well as plenty of restaurants, cafés and micro-breweries. Ranked as one of the world's great hotels since 1893, there are 618 rooms and suites, some of which offer magnificent river views. Facilities are extensive with three restaurants, a bar, lounge and a superb indoor swimming pool and health club with eucalyptus steam bath. Especially recommended is the Le Champlain restaurant, a magnificent example of Victorian architecture and possibly the finest restaurant in the city. It is not surprising that such an iconic property should also have left a memorable imprint on history. During World War II it was the venue for the 1943 Quebec Conference, codenamed ‘Quadrant’ at which Churchill and Roosevelt, along with their chiefs of staff planned out the future allied campaigns.
