On the Water

70 Founded in 1988 and celebrating 35 years of inspirational small ship cruising, Ponant is a distinctly French affair displaying a very chic and innovative approach to luxury ocean adventures with flair, discretion and fine cuisine. French delicacies and wines accompany passengers on cruises around the world, from French Polynesia and the Caribbean to the North and South Poles, and a host of exciting destinations off the usual cruise track due to their smaller vessels accessing shallower anchorages. Ponant attracts a well-travelled, well-dressed international clientele who appreciate the informal , on board atmosphere where the debonair captains often stroll around the ship in short sleeves chatting with guests. Ponant transports European charm no matter where the ships are sailing. and remains the only French-flagged cruise line. The line’s intimate three-masted flagship Le Ponant (32 staterooms) provides a private yacht experience in warmer waters. Under full sail, gliding over the sea with the wind, you will fall under Le Ponant’s spell. Some sailings are directly operated by Ponant and others are under charter to well-known firms like Abercrombie & Kent for special interest groups. In September 2019, PAUL GAUGUIN Cruises joined the Ponant family. With her shallow draft, the 165 cabin Le Paul Gauguin is the ideal vessel for cruising in Polynesia. The newest ships in the fleet are the 184passenger sisters Le Laperouse, Le Champlain, Le Bougainville, Le Dumont-D’Urville, Le Bellot and Le Jacques Cartier, which started to debut in mid-2018. The 245-passenger luxury icebreaker, Le Commandant Charcot, debuted in 2021 and specialises in polar expeditions. Joie de Vivre Ponant - small-ship cruising with a generous slice of French style
