Built into a steep hillside, overlooking the Adriatic, it lies a pleasant 10-minute walk along the coast from Ploče Gate, the eastern entrance into Dubrovnik's Old Town. The old wing of the building, dating from the 1920s, is rather noble, with a stone façade and a series of archways giving onto peaceful gardens. and down to a pool deck at the water’s edge. The new wing was added in the 1960s. Furnishing throughout is palatial, with plush carpets and brocade fabrics, softened by the fantastic sea views. Experience the elegance and tranquility of a restored 15th century monastery at Lopud 1483. Transformed into a place of shared experience where history, art, and botanical exploration unite the senses, The sophisticated interiors, peaceful gardens and atmospheric ancient fortress offer plenty of space for family and friends to enjoy the undiscovered beauty of the Elaphiti archipelago to the north of Dubrovnik. This unique retreat has five suites with eclectic furnishings and contemporary paintings, plus an on-site chef and a boat. You can rent it as a whole in summer, or by individual suite in shoulder season. This was Dubrovnik's first purpose-built hotel when it opened in 1897, and throughout its long history has hosted many leading dignitaries; for instance, Edward VIII andWallis Simpson stayed here in 1936. It has been carefully preserved and the original 19th-century architectural features such as the sweeping stone staircase and stone columns have been retained, but the plush, old-fashioned furnishings and interior colour schemes of the hotel's past have given way to a contemporary aesthetic, with shades of white, grey and blue, and antique-look mirrors to accentuate natural light and spaciousness.
